We all agree that the future of our country is looking no-so-good. We = Democrats, Republicans and even the growing party of disinterested. The jig is up. It’s no longer news the options we’re being given suck for a variety of reasons. But what is news is our newfound lack of empathy.
Now our dirty laundry is being folded by the rest of the world inside a laundromat that only accepts cash. Who will pounce first upon our shaky floorboards? Pick a continent. What’s in jeopardy? What isn’t.
Here’s the comforting part. We can now lay down our divisive political swords in defeat. We’re all losing and we know misery loves company. Heated discussions around the Thanksgiving table are a thing of the past. Hell, maybe we’ll even feel free to change the menu from turkey to chicken. Who cares? It’s more indicative of our personality.
I know we all hate this state of ambivalence. I know I do and it has nothing to do with the candidates. It’s not like they put themselves into the game. We did that. Every single one of us. We brought this on. We’ve been sitting in the stands watching the worst football game between the worst two teams.
After January Sixth, a lot of us thought this country was heading toward a civil war. In lieu of the coming attractions, I’d gladly take it. Not so strange universal bedfellows are putting on fresh linens to dress our bed. They see what we didn’t wish to see.
Vulnerability. We were too occupied with dividing our country that we failed to notice other countries are uniting in anticipation of our fragile state. Now I’m no eloquent speaker of politics and don’t profess to be fluent in the subject, but I’m wondering just what made me feel that confidence I had prior to the Thursday night debate. The impudent and arrogant positioning of our country. The leaders are limited and the followers are now completely lost in the forest.
We have four months to turn this thing around, yet we’re the only ones that think it needs to be. The leadership (all of it) doesn’t see the problem or won’t admit there is one. There’s no time left to debate how we got here. We have a sliver of time to get our sh*t together and reclaim our country. Suddenly the Supreme Court’s ruling regarding total immunity doesn’t even matter.
Can we do it? The shining light in this is that finally WE ALL AGREE.
