It’s making a comeback.
Last night I spent four hours ordering wallpaper for a half bathroom. The wallpaper people are pushing the apply it yourself peel and stick stuff. Little do they know that contractors are squelching the hype by insisting on the non-pasted usual stuff. So that’s one obstacle. The people that make wallpaper discount the peel and stick stuff and the wallpaper hangers refuse to work with it. So yet again the middle man (me) gets stuck in the crossfire. I’m sure job security for the hangers is one contributor to the feud. Another is manufacturers have made an assumption about how the lazy consumer loves instant gratification. But really, would someone decide two hours before hosting a party to peel and stick a new look? You’d be surprised.
Widen your awareness. Put those antennas up and you’ll see for yourself.
Back in wallpaper’s heyday, most patterns were striped. Easy to line up. Most people did it themselves. Well that ain’t possible in its comeback. I ended up picking a mural of silver elephants for the half bath. Gorgeous. The emphasis is on mural. Mural wallpaper requires precise measurements as they take the pattern and adjust it to each wall size. No need to match things. Expensive as hell.
Total cost for 1/2 bath: $1,250 and change. But while I’m sitting in bankruptcy court, I’ll have a memory to last a lifetime and I’ll need it.
