I think most Americans watched the women’s gymnastics team last night.  Beyond the skills and preparation and team work, we witnessed a patriotic dynamic our country desperately needs. Balancing power on a four inch beam.  Storming toward a vaulting horse.  Flying through the air and presenting death defying feats as entertainment.  Wow.  Our country needed to collectively feel good about something and five women provided us with it.  Thank you.

Is it possible we’ve forgotten what a team looks like?  It looks like this.

And it feels powerful and has the capacity to move mountains.  While we’re proud of these women, I can’t help but be a bit jealous.  Not of their accomplishment.  When someone works as hard as they do, the accomplishment is warranted.  Jealous of the camaraderie.  Jealous of working toward a common goal.  Jealous of making a contribution without selfishness or insulting remarks.  Rooting for each other and feeling supported.  They made us proud yet at the same time they taught us a lesson.   We have so much more to learn from them.  A role model to strive toward.
