So this will be an attempt to give a movie review. This movie is being hyped to the max so I got my senior citizen discounted ticket and took my sugar free cream soda to my seat to take a look. (Discount was $11.79 instead of $14.00)
Emma Stone is phenomenal and if she gets a third Oscar she earned it. Poor girl gets electrocuted, struck by a sledge hammer in the knees, strangled to within a second of death and stung by a million bees … oh and has her head shaved whilst drugged into a one day coma. That deserves a prize. But that’s not the disturbing part. I won’t give away the ending but I will say my fellow audience members and I left the theater in utter disgust. Extremely disturbing in a “reflect on this” mode. No one held the door for anyone when exiting the theater. Everyone just wanted out of there as quickly as possible.
A day later I’m still disturbed by Bugonia. It has staying power, the sign of a powerful movie.
Disturbing? Yes. Thought provoking? Definitely. I don’t like the thoughts it raises but they’re tough to shake off. The hangover from hell, one might say. Probably the highlight of the event was the theater itself. Huge reclining, heated and massaging seats. Dining with seat delivery service. Yes they actually brought the chicken tenders to my seat. Now the cost of that meal was about $27.00 so combined with the discounted ticket it was an almost forty bucks date for one. Just to be disturbed? I could’ve rewatched Fatal Attraction eating a tuna sandwich at home for less.
The effect would be similar. Glenn Close being shot in her pregnant gut verses Emma Stone being endlessly tortured. Notice I didn’t say tortured to death. She survives and her broken knee caps should heal in time to walk up the stairs to get her third Oscar. Her hair should grow back in time as well. The bee stings might require coverup and we’re not sure what the electricity and lack of air did to her brain.
We’ll have to wait to hear her acceptance speech to measure that.
